Synopsis

In the tumultuous world of 1940s Britain, spirited young Chas McGill is on a mission to become the town’s best collector of war souvenirs.

Amidst the chaos of air raids, bonds are forged and loyalties strained as Chas and his friends pilfer a machine gun from a downed German aircraft and attempt to impose their own brand of justice.

In this heart-pounding tale, set against the backdrop of imminent German invasion, The Machine Gunners seizes the imagination. The book won the prestigious Carnegie Medal and a place among the decade’s top 10 children’s novels.
