The Browning Version by Terence Rattigan
The Abbey Theatre is a registered charity that doesn’t receive any government or local authority subsidy. We rely entirely on our audiences and supporters to keep us going.
So thank you, those that do help out – and we really can’t say that often enough.
By supporting us, you’re helping out the St Albans and district community in lots of different ways. You’re not just helping people see productions, you’re helping people be part of a group. (There are hundreds of people who help the theatre in all kinds of ways, most of whom you’ll never see on stage.)
Your support will also help young people in the area learn some impressive life skills by being part of productions. Our two youth organisations, the Company of Teens and St Albans Youth Music Theatre, have been important to generations of children and young adults. Many members have gone on to work professionally in theatre and film.
You’ll also help support a building that is used by many other theatrically minded organisations to inspire children of all ages, some with special needs.
Plus, you’ll be helping us raise funds for other local charities (all our productions have a ‘Charity Night’) and support events such as Grace’s Night, a free, annual performance for a specially invited, and extremely appreciative, audience.
There are a number of ways you can support us.
If you would like to make a donation towards the upkeep of the theatre you can enter an amount of your choosing or select one of our preset amounts.
Become an Abbey Theatre Friend and receive two discounted tickets for each Company of Ten production as well as for some visiting shows. You’ll also receive a monthly newsletter with information about our plays, including updates on rehearsals and interesting insights into life behind the scenes.
Membership costs just £15 a year and you can choose to renew your membership automatically each year.
You can also buy Abbey Theatre gift vouchers online, redeemable against all productions at the Abbey Theatre.
We think that these vouchers are ideal for occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries and Mothers’ Day. They’re valid for twelve months from the date of delivery.

Over 60 recipes are presented in this wide-ranging, easy-to-follow recipe book – from simple starters, through elaborate main courses and delicious vegetarian side dishes, to wonderful desserts, with a special section on baking. Over half the recipes include colour photos.
The recipes have been gathered from members of the Company of Ten and have been thoroughly tested and adapted by two highly experienced cooks who have been involved in the Theatre for many years.
Phil Thompson, Michelin-starred chef of Thompson St Albans, has written a Foreword and kindly provided one of his recipes.
Photos from the Company of Ten’s productions from the past 30 years that feature food and drink, as well as food-related quotations, are featured throughout.
The 72-page A5 book is priced at £10, plus £1.50 postage.
