Our Box Office is open Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 12 noon, when you can book by telephone or in person.

We are closed on Bank Holidays, and between mid-July and 31 August, except for Wednesday mornings.

Directions

The Abbey Theatre is half a mile south of St Albans city centre, at the foot of Holywell Hill. Follow the A5183 (from either direction) and look out for the brown traffic signs. We’re at Westminster Lodge, next to the leisure centre.

Parking

Please note that there is now a charge for parking at all times of day until 10pm.
Parking is available in the public car parks near the theatre. From April 2024, the charge is *£2 after 6.30pm.
Please pay at the machines in the car park. Payment may be made by card or PayByPhone, following the instructions on the machine. You may pay by cash but no change is given.
During the day there is a charge of *£1.50 for the first two hours. Blue badge holders are entitled to *three hours free parking.
*Please note that these arrangements may be subject to change, so do check on arrival.

Please leave plenty of time to find a parking space, especially at busy times such as weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The car park is managed by St Albans District Council, and is open to all users of Verulamium Park and its onsite facilities. The Abbey Theatre does not have preferential access. There are plenty of bike racks near the theatre, too.

By car

From the M1 southbound leave at junction 7 and follow the A414 (formerly M10) to the Park Street Roundabout at the end of the former motorway section where it joins the A405 and A5183.

From the M1 northbound leave at Junction 6 and follow the A405 towards St Albans to the Park Street Roundabout at the junction with the A414 (formerly M10) and A5183.

From the M25 leave at junction 21A and follow the A405 towards St Albans to the Park Street Roundabout at the junction with the A414 (formerly M10) and A5183.

From Hatfield and the A1(M) follow the A414 towards Watford to the Park Street Roundabout at the junction with the A405 and A5183.

From the Park Street Roundabout take the A5183 towards St Albans. After about half a mile at the King Harry public house junction, turn right down St Stephens Hill. At the roundabout at the bottom of the hill carry straight on along a short section of dual carriageway then turn left into the Westminster Lodge complex, where you’ll find us behind the leisure centre.

From St Albans town centre follow the A5183 down Holywell Hill and turn right at the bottom, at the start of the short section of dual carriageway, into the Westminster Lodge complex.

By train

St Albans City station has frequent services run by Thameslink from London, Gatwick, Brighton, Luton and Bedford. See www.thameslinkrailway.com for details. The station is five minutes away by taxi, or about half an hour by foot.

St Albans Abbey station is just a few minutes’ walk across the road from the theatre but has a less frequent service. Trains run on a shuttle service to and from Watford Junction. See www.abbeyline.org.uk for details.

By bus

Several bus services run along Holywell Hill past the Theatre. Details of these can be found at www.intalink.org.uk.
