Synopsis

Written to mark the 150th anniversary of Elgar’s birth, Elgar and Alice is a gripping drama that transports us to the year 1920. As we are taken back in time, we have a compelling glimpse into the lives of Sir Edward Elgar, his wife, Alice and his mistress ‘Windflower’.

Set in their comfortable home in Hampstead, the play delves into a marriage that was anything but conventional, yet inspired a great composer to create some of the most iconic English music of the twentieth century.

Worcester News said that ‘Sutton’s masterpiece… is a truly powerful drama’. For MusicWeb International, ‘Elgar and Alice is an absorbing work which gives an insight not only into the Elgars’ married life but also into the working of the artistic mind.’
