Synopsis

White. A blank page or canvas. The challenge: bring order to the whole.

Through design. Composition. Tension. Balance. Light. And harmony.

Immersed in his studio, eccentric artist, Georges Seurat, attempts to capture the characters he sees around him through pointed spots of colour, much to the bemusement of local critics.

A century later, Seurat’s great-grandson is searching for inspiration amidst the unforgiving world of contemporary art in New York. Whilst searching for which artistic path to follow, can he find the answer to his future in the past?

Inspired by the little-known life of Georges Seurat and his pioneering painting ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’, Sunday in the Park with George’explores love, loss, and what it means to sacrifice one’s self for art. Following their successful runs of Merrily We Roll Along and Nine, Ever After Productions return to the Abbey Theatre with the regional premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s Pulitzer Prize winning masterpiece Sunday in the Park with George.
