Synopsis

This charming romantic comedy about the tangled love lives of the staff of Hammerschmidt’s Parfumerie is set just before Christmas in 1930s Budapest.

George Horvath is fired when he is wrongly suspected of having an affair, causing him to miss his first rendezvous with the woman he loves, but with whom he has only exchanged letters.

Deception, misunderstanding and mistaken identity threaten to disrupt the lives of the owner and his employees, until all is happily and unexpectedly resolved.

The play, which has had only one other UK production, may have a familiar ring as the story inspired the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner and the 1998 film You’ve Got Mail.

This adaptation by the nephew of the original playwright, Miklos Laszlo, will leave audiences with a warm glow as the perfect prelude to the festive season.
