La Traviata

17 March 2024–23 March 2024

St Albans Chamber Opera and Orchestra

Main Stage

Synopsis

St Albans Chamber Opera returns in March with Verdi’s La Traviata, one of the most performed operas, famous for its rousing drinking song – a toast sung by Alfredo to his hostess Violetta whom he has secretly loved since he first saw her. As the party finishes, Alfredo professes his love to Violetta, convincing her to live a life of bliss in the countryside with him. Violetta feels faint, questioning if she should abandon the life of a Parisian courtesan for ‘true love’. Could this be an omen for the future?

The cast includes Hannah Dobra as Violetta (a memorable Queen of the Night in last year’s production of The Magic Flute) and  Matthew Howard as Alfredo who has previously sung with Grange Park Opera. John Heath directs, David Ireson conducts and Bob Grover will be designing the lighting.

Please note that rows A and B have been removed to accommodate the orchestra.
