Synopsis

How does a father find purpose in his pain? In 2014, Michael Brown Sr’s son was killed by white police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, an event that fuelled the global Black Lives Matter movement. His personal story seeking justice and healing has not been told until now.

Mobolaji Olambiwonnu is a graduate of UCLA and AFI, a recipient of the prestigious Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Directors Guild of America Student Filmmaker Award. Besides freelance film work, Mobolaji has also worked in the fields of education, conflict resolution, and community organizing. Ferguson Rises is his first feature film, with David and Jessica Oyelowo as co-producers.

Following their collaboration on Becoming Us in 2024, Active Lifestyles and the Company of Ten mark Black History Month 2025 with this film screening.
