Synopsis
Hurst Children’s Theatre Group is staging its 18th pantomime since the group was established nearly 20 years ago. This year we see them in long johns and rat costumes for their production of Dick Whittington, a traditional family pantomime.
Specially written by Mike Hurst, this production is ideal for the cast of hundreds, aged between 3 and 18 years, and will appeal to all members of the family.
It tells of poor young Whittington who arrives in London to make his fortune. Things are looking up when he gets work with Alderman Fitzwarren and falls in love with his daughter, Alice. Unfortunately this stirs the wrath of another employee, Idle Jack, who joins forces with King Rat, alias ‘Ratman’. Together they frame Dick, who is forced to leave London to make his fortune and clear his name.
With his talking cat, Dick is ship-wrecked on a desert island and has a duel with Ratman, but to tell of the final outcome would only spoil your fun. Suffice to say, all good pantos have a happy ending, along with a lot of laughs and good old panto gags.
The production is packed with dances, wonderful songs and a good deal of audience participation, so what better way to get over the end of Christmas and the beginning of term? Come and enjoy an afternoon or evening with us, take a break and soak in the atmosphere. The family will love it!
