Bharatanatyam: A Story in Motion

10 October 2026

Dhwani

Main Stage

Synopsis

The evening’s centrepiece is a major headline performance of Dashavataram (the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu), brought to life by the acclaimed dance collective Samarpana through Bharatanatyam, one of India’s most ancient and celebrated classical dance forms.

Known as ‘a story in motion’, Bharatanatyam operates as a sophisticated visual language where sharp geometric lines and powerful physical movements of pure dance (Nritta) seamlessly integrate with intricate, complex footwork (Laya) and vivid storytelling driven by intense facial expressions and hand gestures (Abhinaya).

Sharing the main stage are three local trailblazers, young artists whose work inspires the next generation of talent.
Suman opens with ‘Jalajakshi’, an iconic, high-energy Carnatic Varnam in the bright, five-note scale of Ragam Hamsadhwani, offering a vibrant expression of devotion to Lord Vishnu.
Malavika performs classical Carnatic works that showcase the tradition’s immense expressive range, using intricate rhythms and evocative melodic scales (ragas) to paint a rich spectrum of emotions.
Aryan presents an immersive, multidisciplinary journey blending live violin, original music, dance, spoken word, and symbolic staging to capture the beauty and resilience of personal transformation.

Presented by Dhwani – a platform for showcasing exceptional, high-calibre talent across all genres, fostering innovation, bridging cultural divides, and providing essential visibility for the next generation of UK performers.
