Synopsis

Bent is the story of Max, a gay man in 1930s Germany. His journey from Berlin to Dachau is harrowing, brutal and deeply compromising. But in the concentration camp, Max finally achieves a dignity that comes by acknowledging his true self.

The New York Times called the play ‘powerful and provocative’ and Michael Billington described it as a work of ‘considerable dignity and passion’. To Nicholas de Jongh, Bent is ‘a play of importance, power and pathos which should concern us all’.

The play contains violent and sexually explicit scenes.
