Every show produced by the Company of Ten – the Abbey Theatre’s resident company – includes a private charity night. At these nights, a selected charity sells tickets to supporters in order to raise funds. In the case of our upcoming play Pressure, three charities will be in the spotlight.

The Harpenden Branch of The Royal British Legion was formed over 100 years ago. Its aim is to support veterans, Armed Forces personnel and their dependents during their times of need. They raise funds by running the Poppy Appeal in Harpenden and surrounding areas and continue fundraising throughout the year. During the 2023 appeal, they raised over £27,000.

As well as arranging events to mark Armed Forces Day and other memorable anniversaries, they attend various local events to raise The Harpenden RBL’s profile and hopefully encourage people to join their Committee. If interested, please contact their Secretary, Rosemary, on 07983 429771 (reg. charity no. 219279).

Lord’s Taverners exists to empower and positively impact the lives of young people. They provide innovative, inclusive and impactful cricket programmes, empowering young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged communities to overcome the challenges of inequality, raise their aspirations and reach their potential. Evidence tells us that there continues to be a great need for their work, with 4.3m people aged 8–18 living in England and Wales at risk of inequality. With support, they can continue to grow their reach, targeting activities to those in the greatest need.

The Pepper Foundation is a local charity that funds children’s hospice care at home for children with life-limiting and terminal conditions. Covering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, it funds specialised nurses, play specialists, respite support and more. Pepper believes that every child and their family deserve to be at home, making memories and staying together – especially in their most difficult times.
