The Company of Ten is putting the finishing touches to their two-week-long, one-act feast of a playwrighting festival, which will be showing in the Abbey Theatre Studio 3–5 & 11–13 July 2024 at 8pm. The Festival will offer a wide selection of stories and genre to enjoy.

This is a new venture for the Company which they hope to make a regular feature of their programming.

Having sent word out far and wide, they received a bumper crop of exciting, brand-new scripts which subsequently underwent rigorous assessment by their hardworking team of readers in order to select the very best to include in the festival.

But it’s not all about the playwrights. The aim was to include as many creatives in the project as possible, and with this in mind the Company’s own directors and actors have been signed up to bring the scripts to life on the stage.

With a possible three plays each night on offer to audiences, they will have a wide range of genre and storylines to enjoy. They will also have the chance to comment constructively on what they have seen in order to help the playwrights further nurture their scripts. And who knows, you may be witnessing the first steps on the career ladder of the next Mike Bartlett or Lucy Prebble.

“The Company of Ten is committed to supporting new writing and hosts a thriving Writers’ Group,” says Jenny Kilcast. “With the arts in general and theatre in particular very hard hit by austerity and cost-cutting at the moment, we are delighted to be able to lend a hand to those starting out in their desire to write for the stage. Our festival will enable novice writers to have an appreciative and supportive audience, and for audiences to enjoy an exciting mix of all things drama.”
