The English language premiere of Isabelle Sorente’s Hard Copy, by Martin Goodman, opens in our Studio on June 26.

Co-workers Belle, Blanche, Douce and Rose share an office and attempt to lighten the day-to-day slog of getting along by offering up spicy personal confessions, sharing sexual fantasies and mercilessly bating the lame duck of the group. But as the day progresses their superficial banter turns bleak, heralding a disturbing denouement.

Translator Martin Goodman is chair of the Abbey Theatre Trust and this is his first foray into theatrical translation. He says: ‘I am currently researching workplace bullying as represented in French contemporary theatrical, cinematic, and literary storytelling for a PhD at the University of Leeds.

‘In telling her story, Isabelle has taken the risk of mixing farce with tragedy and presents us with something that starts out as comedy and ends as something very black indeed’.

Performances take place from Wednesday 26 June to Friday 28 June at 8pm. You can book tickets here.

Following the performances in St Albans, the play will go on to be part of the Camden Festival in London, playing at the Camden People’s Theatre in June. Tickets for London performances are available here.
