Established in 1934, the Company of Ten has built up a remarkable collection of photographs, programmes, newspaper cuttings and other material documenting its productions and wider activities over more than 90 years. Together, they provide a unique record not only of the Company itself, but also of the cultural life of St Albans.

While more recent material already exists in digital form, much of the collection remains in hard copy and is carefully stored at the Abbey Theatre.

In 2026, the Company began an ambitious project to digitise the entire collection, making it accessible to members, researchers, theatre enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in the Company’s history. The material available through this section of the website is the result of that ongoing work.

This is a long-term project and the collection is still growing. At present, only a small proportion of the material has been digitised, but new items will be added regularly. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring the archive and will return from time to time to discover what’s been added.
