The Abbey Theatre offers audio descriptions of most Company of Ten productions on the Main Stage – for one night of the run, usually a Thursday.
Audio description is a commentary, through headsets that we provide, for visually impaired theatre goers. It explains what’s happening on stage in the parts of the production where there’s no dialogue.
The commentary might describe a fight, for example, or a change of scenery, or even a facial expression. The purpose is to ensure visually impaired people don’t miss anything and can thoroughly enjoy the performance.
If you’d like to take advantage of our audio description, please book your ticket via our Box Office so we can reserve a headset for you.
We’ll also provide you with a CD (which can be posted to you in advance) that describes the set, characters and costumes of the show you’ve booked to see.
Performances which are audio described are marked with an ‘AD’ on the Production Dates listings, or can be found here.
