Emily Bronte’s gothic tale of love and revenge adapted by April De Angelis for today’s audiences.
Cathy and Heathcliff are inseparable as children, and their friendship grows into a passionate love. But when Cathy chooses to marry the wealthy Edgar Linton, what will become of them both, and how will the decision influence the fate of the next generation?
Please note that there are no public performances on Monday 18 or Tuesday 19 November. The production on Thursday 21 November will be audio described.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it Anna. https://t.co/msuzZNpe8H
De Angelis’ adaption is a fluid and energising piece of theatre. It is one of the versions most faithful to Bronte’s masterpiece, and has been described by The Journal as ‘sensitive and yet highly innovative’ and a play which ‘will not leave fans disappointed, while Bronte virgins might well find themselves converted.’
Tina Swain joined her first drama group as a teenager in Manchester, and has been a member of CoT since 1994. She’s appeared in several productions, including Calendar Girls, Hello and Goodbye and Talking Heads, and has directed two Christmas shows as well as working backstage on many other productions. She first encountered the playwright April De Angelis when she was cast as Mrs Marshall in Playhouse Creatures, and is delighted to be directing this excellent adaptation of a favourite novel.
