The Guardian described playwright Amanda Whittington as ‘our most consistently popular female dramatist,’ whilst the Daily Telegraph described this play as ‘absorbing… The writing is playful and pin-sharp.’ The Stage said it was ‘tense and engaging throughout… a triumph.’ The Abbey Theatre patron Mike Newell directed a film about Ellis in 1985, called Dance with a Stranger.
