Crime spree at the theatre this week
Our season opener, Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime, kicks off on Friday 12 September and promises to be an entertaining night out for all.
Based on Oscar Wilde’s short story, the play by Trevor Baxter has been described by The Stage as ‘an evening of enchantment… a deft melodrama complete with musical accompaniment and entr’acte poesy, adorned by freshly-minted dialogue and aphorisms that even Wilde might be happy to own.’
Director Lee Harris highlights the comedic element when he explains, “Oscar Wilde said, ‘To show the truth, you must make people laugh’. I think the truth he was trying to show here was that people are far too easily influenced by the opinions of others.”
