Theatre celebrates golden weekend in sparkling style

The Abbey Theatre celebrated its half-centenary at the end of May with two days of fantastic celebrations, memories and reunions.

On the Saturday a gala performance of On Golden Pond impressed an audience that included local luminaries. These included Madeleine Burton from the Herts Advertiser, who wrote in the paper that ‘the Company of Ten demonstrated once again why it has retained its reputation as a amateur dramatic company par excellence’.

On the Sunday, the theatre hosted a party for Company of Ten members past and present.

The party featured a show called ‘Good as Gold’ in which numerous members recalled episodes from the theatre’s history, beginning with its first ever production, The Recruiting Officer, which was performed in front of the Queen Mother.
