Shakespeare’s great love story ends tonight
Juliet and her Romeo, which ends tonight, was praised by the Herts Advertiser for its ‘excellent’ leads, ‘first-rate’ set and ‘spot on’ music.
In this production, the tragedy is viewed through older eyes. The star-crossed lovers are not young teenagers but residents of the Verona Care Home seeking passion and fulfillment before time runs out.
Director Angela Stone says, ‘The lovers are advanced in years, and in this version, their saga of life and death takes place over just five days. It is heartbreaking as we know that they are nearing the end of their natural lives. The clock is ticking for them in a way that it never was for Romeo and Juliet.’
