Humour blooming in our ‘Garden’

The Company of Ten’s much anticipated comedy, Alan Ayckbourn’s Round and Round the Garden, is almost ready to open.

Like many good comedies, it includes plenty of unlikely situations and physical humour. But according to director Alan Bobroff, it is the quality of comic writing that really makes the play stand out.

“Rather than relying on the knockabout of farce to produce laughs, Ayckbourn creates the comedy in the personalities of his characters and the dialogue he has written for them,” Alan says. “During rehearsals we are constantly finding little nuggets of comedy hidden in the writing.”

He adds: “To have the opportunity to direct a play by one of our favourite playwrights, and one who especially appeals to audiences at this theatre, is a particular delight.”

Performances take place on our Main Stage from Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 May at 8pm, on Sunday 18 May at 2.30pm and from Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 May at 8pm.
