‘Hard-hitting yet humane’ drama on this weekend

Dancehall Sweethearts, which is on in our Studio this weekend, is the story of music-loving teenager Donal.

He pulls a trigger on a cold winter’s night in Belfast, propelling himself and his family into a nightmare of silence and despair.

The play is set against the background of the sectarian civil war which tore Northern Ireland apart in the 1970s and 80s.

This hard hitting yet humane drama looks at how such a conflict can draw in the unwilling, transforming their lives and the lives of their friends and enemies.

Mial Pagan’s previous plays include Other People’s Lives, The Old Fighting Cocks and National Trust. He is also the author of the Dermot O’Hara detective series.

Tickets can be bought here. If you miss it, you can catch it in August at the Upstairs at the Gatehouse theatre as part of the Camden Fringe.
